          Attorney Patten was raised in eastern North Carolina, but summered at Lake Junaluska where he now resides with his wife and two daughters.  His son now attends Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.  He too has strong ties to the community.  Don earned his B.A. from Duke University in 1980 and his J.D. from Mercer University School of Law in 1983. 

          Mr. Patten was admitted to the practice of law in North Carolina in 1983.  In 1984, Mr. Patten was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.  Moreover, in 1992, Mr. Patten was admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

          Don spent much of the early part of his career serving as an Assistant District Attorney for the 30th Judicial District of North Carolina.  This seven county district covered every North Carolina county west of Buncombe County.  Upon leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Patten began practicing Criminal Defense, Domestic, and Family Law.  Mr. Patten has tried hundreds of cases covering the areas of equitable distribution, child support, custody, DWI’s, felonies, and numerous others.

          Out of the office Don enjoys spending time with his family and friends and supporting his love for music.  Don can be found playing bass on the weekends and during the summer, and has an extensive collection of music.  For more information call Don.
